Aerotel Medical Systems (Holon, Israel) offers AlarmTouch GPS, a personal safety and location system. It has an embedded quad-band Global System for Mobile communications/General Packet Radio Service (GSM/GPRS) module, built-in speakerphone, and active GPS receiver. With its geofencing feature, the device enables accurate location of users. When the wearer wanders outside a specified zone (e.g., neighborhood or school area), the system sends a short SMS (short message service) alert to a monitoring center and/or a relative or caregiver.
The GPS-based personal telecare safety device is distributed in Switzerland by GEBOA (Lausanne, Switzerland) in phone outlets and at some response centers across the country. The companies plan to introduce these products soon in France as well as in other markets in Europe.
"AlarmTouch GPS is taking Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS) and social alarm systems, to the next level," said Ofer Atzmon, vice president for business development at Aerotel Medical Systems. "It can activate a warning signal or initiate a voice call... identifying the caller's location, enabling them to get immediate assistance." Dr. Georges Bongi, CEO of GEBOA said, "We are very enthusiastic about working with Aerotel, which is bringing second-to-none solutions on to the market at very attractive prices."
